Roger Carroll, Owner and Boat Carpenter, has been building, restoring and maintaining boats for over 40 years. Roger’s love of boats started when teaching sailing for the summer at Camp Namequoit in Orleans, MA in 1967. From there, Roger honed his boat carpentry, restoration and fiber-glassing skills in boatyards in Chatham, eventually opening Roger Carroll Boat Carpenter in So Chatham, MA in 1980.
Over the years, Roger has had the opportunity to meet the needs of fellow boat enthusiasts through building cold-molded wooden boats, constructing 19’ fiberglass Monomoy skiffs, annually maintaining Beetle Cats, Whistlers and other sail boats, servicing the local Commercial Fishing fleet, and providing custom finish work. Roger’s extensive experience and diversity of work make him an expert in both wood and fiberglass boat building, repair and restoration.
As an avid sailor, Roger can be found sailing offshore to points in Maine and Nova Scotia, or enjoying a day sail in a Hurricane Sloop in Pleasant Bay on Cape Cod. As a boat carpenter, Roger values the following in his work and customers:
- Personal relationship with my customers
- Understanding my customers’ needs and working closely with them
- A feeling of pride due to quality workmanship
- A feeling of accomplishment in taking a plan and making it work for my customer
- Helping fisherman make their boats more efficient and safe
- The satisfaction of knowing my customers are thankful and appreciate the workmanship
Craig Perkins came on board to work with me in the Fall of 2016. Prior to Craig’s arrival many part time workers were subcontracted to help me with overload and specific projects. Since Craig has jumped on board the level of commitment and his invested attitude has made the shop more efficient and has helped my business to grow even more. Craig’s history with boats was limited and his expanded knowledge is outstanding. Craig takes great pride each time we see a boat on the water that he has worked on. Craig takes time with each customer to understand clearly their thoughts and needs.
